Thursday morning, after the zoo and snow eating incident, Lincoln woke up with a high fever. I kept giving him ibuprofen but it kept returning. Friday as I left for work I checked and it was 103.5. I woke him up and gave him more medicine and told Ben to take him into Dr. Rose.
One Dr. appointment, a trip to the lab for some blood work and 3 hours later we get a call from Dr. Rose saying that Lincoln needs to be admitted to the hospital. WHAT? I wanted to cry right then. He started speaking Doctor to me as if I was going to think like a nurse instead of a mom. Anyway, most of his labs were normal. However, his CRP should be 0.8 and his was 20.8! Yikes. C- reactive protein shows inflammation in the body but not where the inflammation is.
So, once at the hospital I walk in to find out our resident covering will by Wyatt. He is our neighbor and I play volleyball with his wife every Wednesday. We get to our room and they start decide to rule out all possibilities of infection. First they do a lumbar puncture (spinal tap). I was bugged that they did the most invasive thing first. At least they had given him nasal versed so he won't remember a thing! Started an IV. (In his head after two failed attempts in the hands).
Then, it was off to chest x-ray. Lincoln only wanted Grandpa Jay. To get the x-ray they put kids in this awful torture device.
Then finally a CT scan.
All tests came back normal! :) Which is great but at the same time, we still have no idea what is wrong with him. He was still eating and drinking. So, we spent the night in the hospital, no fluids, no antibiotic. The nurses would come check his temperature and gave him tylenol twice. His labs had improved and the last fever he had was at 7am that morning. We all just wanted to go home. I finally talked Dr. Rose into letting us go home. He was hilarious. He kept talking outloud. "Well, you are a nurse, and your in laws live by Debbie, and you live close to the hospital." But it worked and we were released after 15 hours. And just in time to deep clean the house before Jaybens birthday party!

That does look like a torture device!! :( When Cannon has his chest x-ray they didn't have anything like that! Poor little guy! It breaks my heart! :(
That picture of Linc makes me want to cry, but then I kind of want to laugh too. He'll see this picture when he's older and say, "what the heck did you let them do to me mom!" So sweet!
I always hate it when you just want to be the mom and every one keeps saying "it's a good thing you're a nurse!" Really people I just want to hold my baby tight right now and not be the nurse.
Where is Dr. House when you need him?
I feel so out of the loop. No one tells me anything.
I hope he is feeling better now.
That is seriously the saddest picture ever. Poor little guy! so-- nothing since? weird.
