ready to run!

Ogden Half Marathon

Ben took 8/147 in his age group but 67 overall out of 2361 runners at a miraculous time of 1:35:51. He was only 15 minutes behind the winner.
Ness took 211/360 in her age group and 1382 overall at 2:15:29
Jay took 24/31 in his "age group" and also would have been 24/36 in his real age group and 1383 overall at 2:15:30
Jay slowed down significantly the last mile to wait for me after I stopped to stretch (I highly discourage this during a race, I lost all momentum). We decided that my boobs made my time just that hundreth of a second faster. Sorry Jay! But I do appreciate you waiting.

Here is what we were told prior to running this half marathon:
  • It's all downhill (FALSE)
  • It's Beautiful (TRUE!!!)
  • It's going to be your fastest half marathon (PROBABLE: if you train right, weather cooperates, and you have the right shoes).
  • The last mile is awful (TRUE!)
Here is what we weren't exactly told:
  • It starts on a hill, what Jay and I called the whoopdee doos. Just when you thought you got over that first hill, you would head down a shallow hill, only to find another uphill approaching. It did that about 5 times before finally heading down.
  • The parkway seems so much longer than 3 miles. It is pretty but wow!
  • Otis Spunkmeyer had trays full of cookies after mile 10. I thought I was going to puke. Seriously, who eats a cookie while running a half or a marathon?
  • The last mile on Grant Avenue is excruciating and painful to run down. I felt like the finish line was not getting any closer. It was by far the longest mile of the entire 13.
