I have officially done yet another thing I said I wouldn't do. Yes, I did the Ragnar. It was, well...an experience.
Here is half the team. These lovely people all met just hours before we were to spend the next 31 hours together trapped in a stinky van.
Here is the starting line. We started at 1:30 in the afternoon. I guess they had high hopes for our team. Katie did a cartwheel right before she started and won a cool necklace. Then she was off. She soared through her first run. And then she passed off to me.
I had a lot of adrenaline and even managed to finish my first mile in under 9 minutes. But that was as far as the adrenaline could take me. I crashed soon after that and with good reason. This hill was horrible. At this point I was only about half way up. But Adam Levine sang me up the hill with "I am in misery!" How appropriate. I was walking when Katie took the picture, but as she said, it totally does look like I am running. Angie was an awesome support in our van. She has done Ragnar before and run 20 marathons. But she only started running 8 years ago. She just qualified for Boston. But tore her calf muscles in both legs running the Ogden Marathon. She is my hero! And Not elderly!
I couldn't get a good picture on the night runs. But no worries, that is really what it looked like. It was so hard to see who was coming. Next time I do it I am totally going to line my pants with glow sticks so I look like a stick figure. I ran though mountain green. It felt really good but I sure wasn't moving as fast as I wanted too. And this is me on my last and final leg of the Ragnar. This is where I really perfected the slog. I was totally making the motions of running but my body would not move any faster. It was so annoying. I just wanted to get it over with. I really could have used some down hill on this one.
And finally our team finished. We all ran in together to the finish! It took us 31:20 to finish all 192 miles. We were 333 out of 842.
I made some awesome memories.
Here are some of my favorite things:
Katie talking non stop. (Probably just felt good with Kyle not around to get a word in. j/k)
This girl was running in a running skirt and it kept riding up. So Katie just saying it like it is Said "it was getting all hoochie." Too funny.
Katie telling herself to just shut up as she was talking at 7 in the morning as we were trying to sleep on the wrestling mats in North Summit High school.
Angie saying she was going to take her pants off to run and Austin taking it totally wrong.
Getting a sprayed on tattoo from a guy in pink pants with a diaper over the top.
Overall the Ragnar was a fun experience. My quads burn like never before but I would totally do it again.
