After having contractions at work all morning on Friday they finally sent me home. But once I got home nothing happened. Unfortunately we had to wait another day. We went in for our scheduled induction on Saturday morning at 7:30. Around 8:30 they started the pitocin but Lincoln did not react very well and they turned it off after two contractions. They decided to see if breaking my water would help. At 9:15 Dr. Bierer came in and with the hook in hand proceeded to break my water and at the same time he placed an internal fetal monitor on Lincolns head. It was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. It seemed as if he was taking his sweet time and I was literally trying everything I could not to pee on the doctor or cry! You know it's painful when you spontaneously need to pee. Finally I was told I could relax. But my body would not let me. I started shaking so bad and despite every effort to calm myself nothing helped. I managed to have a few contractions on my own but nothing regular or productive. At 9:30, Dr. Madlang, the anesthesiologist came in with the epidural. I felt kind of bad that I was already getting my epidural since I wasn't really in pain but then I remembered that I don't really like pain anyway. The epidural was great! So great, that my blood pressure dropped 40 points in less than a half an hour. I was light-headed, a little nauseated and kept feeling like I was going to pass out. They gave me the face-mask and 5 liters of oxygen, laid me on my left side and that is how I passed the next few hours. But I still continued shaking so I couldn't even sleep. At some point they started the pitocin again but it's all a blur. Around 12:30 they checked me and I was dilated 4 cm. I was making very little progress. My parents were getting bored and hungry so they left to get some food. My nurse Andrea and the charge nurse came in around 1:40 to place an internal monitor for my contractions because the belly thing wasn't picking them up. I told them I was feeling a lot of pressure. Thank goodness they checked me because I was a ten! They called Dr. Bierer to come in. And we hurried to call my mom back to the room. I warned my nurse that I didn't push long with Jayben so she didn't have me do any practice pushes. Finally, at 2:02 Dr. Bierer came in the room. He gowned up and sat down. We waited for a contraction and I pushed three times for ten seconds each. Then we waited for another contraction and again pushed three times for ten seconds each. After that he told me to push a few more times without waiting for the next contraction. And Lincoln was born at 2:10. Not to brag but I am really good at pushing. Oh and having a short torso and a little baby probably helps too!
He weighed 6 lbs 6 oz. 19 inches long. He immediately cried and looked great. Both Apgar scores were 9. He even has a little bit of hair!
