McKay Dee held a 5K in honor of their 100 years celebration. Someone had the great idea to start it at the original Dee hospital and end at the new one. And it was 90% uphill. Yay! Not only was the course less than desireable, the weather did not cooperate either. The race was filled with obstacles. It started with running into the wind (uphill). The wind caused there to be tree branches scattered throughout the street that you had to dodge. Then came the rain at such force it felt like little knives as it hit your face. And scattered microbursts that took you off balance. Oh and not to mention I was running with a hospital gown on. It kept catching the wind like a parachute. By the time I got to mile 2, I felt as if I had run 4 miles. That's when I decided it was ok to walk a little and try to regroup some energy to finish.
Despite the conditions, we had an awesome group running with us. Ben got about 16 of his coworkers to come out and do the 5k, his dad and Josh. I found Jordan before the race but she is speedy so I didn't run with her. 5 people from my floor ran, Caitlin and Maegan started out the race with me. But at some point I think Maegan was carried away with the wind and like usual Caitlin powered through and finished strong. Nancy and I finished the 5k together somewhere in between Caitlin and Maegan. After we finished, we got breakfast, and Nancy and I won prizes. We also got shirts. Too bad they are all a size too small.

That is so stinkin' funny that you ran in a hospital gown! Your awesome... but what about the superman cape!???!
It was a fun race! I kind of liked the obstacles we faced, it was more interesting :) At least it was only a 5K and not a 1/2 marathon (remember Huntsville...)
Thanks for being a AWESOME running buddy!
You guys were brave to tough it out! Way to go!
