How does "flag" football lead to surgery? Good question. About two weeks ago Ben was invited to play flag football and this is the result: closed reduction of nasal fracture, septal reconstruction and reduction of turbinates. I guess that's what happens when you take an elbow to the nose.
We came to the hospital around 6:45 this morning and left at 2:45. The surgery took about an hour and a half, the rest has been the recovery stage. But some good has come of it. While sitting in the waiting room I was able to outline a chapter for school. I also made friends with a few of the other people in the waiting room (when did I become my mother? sorry, that could be a whole other post). One of my new friends in the waiting room asked me if I was 19. I also learned my ability to multi-task has improved. I had on my i-pod, I as reading my chapter, typing on my computer, and texting while talking to my new friends. I looked like I was a tech junkie. It was funny.
Ben has a pretty little cast on his nose that we have to treat just like any other cast. He can't get it wet and that creates a real challenge for showering. Ben is home and doing well. He isn't his funny self yet. But it's fun for me because I get to play nurse for him. It's good practice for the real world.
So much for Ben trying to pass as Owen Wilson's little brother (I will post some pictures of the before and you will see what I mean).

Ouch! That looks miserable. Hope he gets feeling better soon.
You totally do still look young! (and skinny, and beautiful...I'm trying not to start cutting...)
I hope Ben's nose heels fast, and that I don't have to read anymore stories about how you are playing 'nurse'...
Although, I am sure you are a great Nurse. I'm sick of bad nurses, not to name names...(Jordan Valley Hospital...)
hey ben,
That must have sucked big time. I love your blog. Jayben looks so old now. And janessa, i'm glad you enjoyed my birthday.
Robbie
(your only cool cousin, and no I didn't forget your birthday, i was just to busy celebrating mine in the sunny weather of san antonio)

Oh man--that just looks painful! Poor guy. Isn't it funny how competitive something like flag football can get?!
Hey Ben, If you can not see real well because of your nose cast, perhaps I can come over and challenge you to some ping-pong, maybe this time I could win.
Get better big guy.
And Janessa, you should go into writing a column for one of the local newspapers, you really know how to make a story come alive.

So I am just starting this blogging thing... so be patient with me!
Unfortunately I totally emphathize with the whole broken nose thing! Been there, done that... just ask Dee. :) Hope he gets feeling better.
-Brooke
Brooke stop acting like you didn't do that on purpose to get a nose job, and blame it on a battle wound. I think this year I'm going up to Idaho, and having a fat cat accident...I'm gonna land on my boobs!
I still pray every day for Brook to forgive me for that accident. I guess my prayers don't reach heaven anymore...
Dee
What did you do to Brooke?
Dee didn't do anything other than have a retarded friend who couldn't figure out how to put up the kickstand before driving a motorcycle... Duh me.
That is too bad. But i'm sure it's a funny story to think about now!
